The Library

The library of the New Synagogue – Centrum Judaicum Foundation is currently comprised of 15,000 volumes related to Judaism, of which approximately 1,500 are in Hebrew or Yiddish.

These publications deal with the general, local and regional history of the Jews in Germany and the Jewish faith. The library also contains incomplete collections of some Jewish newspapers and journals.

The collection consists of parts of the Library of the Jewish community of Berlin (East), transfers from the Zentral und Landesbibliothek Berlin and the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, private estates, donations, gifts, antiquarian purchases, etc.

The 2004/2005 indexing of the collections in an electronic catalogue was supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen and Halbach Foundation.

The reference library is open Tuesday – Thursday 10.15 AM to 4 PM to visitors for research purposes and subject to prior notification.
