About the House

Taking up the tradition of the New Synagogue, the New Synagogue Berlin – Centrum Judaicum Foundation sees itself as a link connecting the past and the future.

As a “bet ha-knesset”, a synagogue, has always been more than a place of prayer. It is a place to congregate, to teach and to study.

With this in mind, the Centrum Judaicum has the task of collecting and addressing the history of the Jews in and around Berlin. It seeks to recall the achievements of the Jewish people and to preserve the memory of the Jews who were murdered.

Working with other Jewish and non-Jewish institutions, the Foundation archives, evaluates, and publishes relevant documents. In addition to the permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions serve to make Jewish history concrete and tangible.

The Centrum Judaicum is a source of information on Jewish life, and by formulating Jewish positions on the concerns of our time, it acts as a bridge between East and West European Jewry.
